Orthodontics is a specialist dental skill which straightens the teeth,
stops them sticking out, closes gaps and corrects any problems with the
jaw, it improves your smile and the health of your mouth.

Some general dentists fix braces but they are not specialists in orthodontics.
We have trained as general dentists but we also have four or five years
extra training to become specialist orthodontists.

It is recommended that every child should be checked out by an orthodontist
by the age of eight or nine but people can be treated at any age, even
into their 60s or 70s!

An Orthodontist is an expert in moving teeth, helping the jaws to work
properly and correcting bad 'bites'. We do this by using braces and wires
to apply gentle and steady pressure over quite a long time. It's clever
engineering really!

That depends on each individual case - that's why you're special. First
we examine your mouth, we fit what we call an appliance (wires and braces)
and then we check the progress over a few months until, hey presto, your
teeth have moved into the new position leaving you with a brilliant new
smile.

Fortunately, some Orthodontic treatment is available on the NHS and is free.
We do offer
private treatment and would prepare a private treatment plan and advise
you of all the costs at the beginning - so there's no surprises.
